One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had is sitting down with someone I didn't really know and being able to talk about anything and everything and knowing that the understand me.
The most important thing for women in a relationship is having someone to talk to, the most important hing for men (sex aside) is knowing that the other understands them. One of the most common phrases on myspace and social sites is "lets chat" and one of the biggest causes of depression and suicide is lack of communication with the patient.
of What is it about this world that makes people want to talk so much? What is the importance communication. Aside from being the glue for societies, it is one of the most essential ingredients to our sanity. A person cannot survive without talking to anyone.
It seems amazing that in this age of communication the biggest thing troubling people is the lack of it. I'm not going to join the party of anti-technologist stating that technology is the source of all evil. I must admit that the Internet does encourage the cultural trend of people talking more than they listen, but that is simply inevitable. This problem has existed for a long time. But it modern times it had become more pronounced.
The Internet has brought many different cliques of people together bridging geographical gaps throughout the world. But it has also created a new territory where many thousands of people to roam, aimlessly, looking for an answer to their personal questions.
Many of us probably looked up at the world, hoping that someone, even a stranger, would come to us and talk with us. But what we are really looking for is someone who can also understand. Because when we do talk to strangers we do not suddenly open up and talk about everything, we are socially inapt to do that. What we are looking for is someone who can listen and understand how we feel, someone who wouldn't ask too many question, but not ask too few.
One of the greatest gifts you can ever give to another is simply listening, no judgments involved. It is amazing how much gratitude you can get from this. Don't worry about your own opinions, once you've given someone the gift of paying attention to them they will be immensely grateful to you, so grateful that they will try to return the favor as best they can. If you get into the habit of listening to other people, giving them a shoulder to lean on even of they don' have an explicit reason, you will always get a shoulder in return.
