This movie was recommended to me by Jasmine. It is a great movie, funny, upbeat, hip and has a good message to the public which is WE NEED NEW EDUCATION. The movie broadcasts the idea of teaching people what they want to learn and not what you want them to learn, letting them go at their own pace. No pressure, no tests, no cages and boundaries. Let them progress because they want to progress and not because they are pushed to do so.
It is a sad reality we live in when we see students working a sweating hard to get good grades and they are not even doing it for themselves. Most "good" students study hard because they are told to, they are told it is the right thing to do, they are told that is what would make their parents happy. Well guess what, if a kid brings home an A+ but doesn't know what to do with it he is better off failing the class.
The first six years in people's lives are amazing, fascinating, jam-packed with excitement and new experiences. They can't wait to learn, exploring everything they can get their hands on. Then they hit first grade, suddenly they can only learn what they are told to learn, suddenly they can go only where told to go. They must sit in a chair and remember all kinds of boring facts, and if they start getting anxious or start moving around they are shouted at to be quiet and sit down. No, not a very good experience. It is no wonder most people loose their fascination with life.
The movie shows the alternative to traditional learning. Instead of forcing students into a curriculum they force the curriculum into the students. The students dictate what is to teach, thus making the system far More adaptive. (This is, of course, another sign of this world's insanity. What sense is there in forcing a persons mind to fit into a set of written words? Wouldn't it make much more sense to force the written words to fit the person?")

Of course there is only one small problem not addressed in the movie, and that is the issue of money. The lease for the building alone would have cost them a couple hundred thousand dollars. Sure, they had two or three million dollars in their account, but after they finish with supplies and food, two extremely costly issues, they'd be left bankrupt. Not to mention upkeep and maintenance, after a few months they'de be out of business. Even if I am exaggerating a bit (I'm not, go check the numbers) money is still a giant problem. But if we solve the money problem (and if someone knows how, PLEASE tell me at once!) the scenario depicted in the film is probably the best thing that can happen to education.

what do you want to learn?

As and ending note, I pose a question to you. Given that you are enlisted and accepted at South Harmon, what classes would you take?
